Team News

Aston Villa

Man Utd
- Steven Gerrard says Philippe Coutinho is not match fit following his move from Barcelona so may only make his Aston Villa debut from the bench against old foe Manchester United on Saturday.
- It will be interesting to see where Gerrard plays his former Liverpool team-mate, whether in a midfield diamond or in attack alongside Ollie Watkins and Emi Buendia. It is likely we will see both during the course of the season.
- Villa are actually a little light in midfield this weekend with John McGinn suspended and Marvelous Nakamba injured so Gerrard will certainly be tempted to unleash Coutinho from the start in a 4-3-1-2 formation. Morgan Sanson is the alternative but his Villa career has just not got going.
- Lucas Digne was announced as an Aston Villa player on Thursday morning following a move from Everton and Gerrard will seriously ponder a full debut for him with Matt Targett out of form.
- Apart from being involved in two disallowed goals, Danny Ings was mainly on the periphery again on Monday night.
- Ashley Young remains a doubt to face his former club, while young talent Jaden Philogene-Bidace will only return to training on Monday due to a hip problem.
- Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay are both suspended for Manchester United due to an accumulation of bookings.
- Ralf Rangnick has confirmed he expects Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Phil Jones to be fit to face Aston Villa on Saturday after injury ruled them out last time around.
- Harry Maguire has missed United's last two through injury but was able to train on Thursday and should return to partner Raphael Varane here.
- Diogo Dalot is hoping to be available on Saturday despite picking up a nasty gash on his ankle at the start of the week. Aaron Wan-Bissaka may come back in anyway.
- Rangnick believed Donny van de Beek's introduction and the change to a diamond formation gave United more control on Monday night so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him start with it here.
- Paul Pogba is a long-term absentee and Eric Bailly is away at AFCON with the Ivory Coast.
May Coutinho become that one player who transforms Villa into a top club.
@GioMonaldo Why?
@splint3r I want the guy to succeed and win trophies.
@GioMonaldo lol settle down
United players terribly bad at holding on to the ball
Rangnick is worser than Solksjaer.Man Utd what a joke outfit lol
Hahaha, United are so funny
Varane is past his best forever
@koziol.mutant no, he was always overrated. Ramos was the one carrying the Real Madrid backline
@koziol.mutant Both goals were Dalot's fault, his defensive awareness and positioning is nowhere near good.
Villa before and after 30 mins are totally different teams, they were hopeless. I don't like Benitez at all but looks like he was right about Digne, first game and already suspended for the next game with a silly mistake.
Over 2.5 match goals.
@Rensen Boom bet wins
When everybody is against Man Utd they deliver. 1-2
@koziol.mutant haven't delivered in 9 years
@Chilly_B Chelsea fans are so b-hurt that always one of them is here since the draw against them, where's your friend with his usual 3-0 prediction against United today?
@Byakuya rattled as per
Aston Villa Win Maybe
The 4.2.2.2 has clearly not being effective so far, and I think the main headache at United is the "un-droppable" Ronaldo. However, luck is so much on Ralf's men and that should sustain them in the meantime until they find a solution. As for Gerrard, honeymoon seem to be over and although the last three loses can't be alarming, they are a wake up call. That said, the best Villa can do here is a draw. 1:1 | 0:1 FT.
Aston Villa to surely win the match. With Ronaldo, Man U has no hope.
@Milosval Can't recognize any logic in your post. It's like saying with Neuer in goal Bayern stand no chance ...
@neumi17 Do you expect logic from haters? I never had any comment on Juve or Madrid's posts about Ronaldo and one of them was calling me penaldog for no reason last week.
@neumi17 penaldo fanboy
@Socio4Life Even less logic than Miloslav
Manchester DC/ over 1.5 goals
1-3 MU
